Regenerative medicine - which stimulates natural tissue healing - is experiencing strong growth in Europe: the continental market is expected to grow from $1.62 billion in 2024 to over $11 billion by 2033. IMAGE REGENERATIVE, with Prof. Carlo Tremolada as scientific director, is among the pioneering Italian centers of this approach.
Tremolada explains that the objective is to activate the body's intrinsic self-healing capabilities through mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) - called pericytes - present in all tissues, particularly in adipose tissue. The Lipogems® method, which he patented, consists of harvesting fat with thin cannulas, micro-fragmenting it to reduce fragments from 3 mm to 0.3 mm while keeping the microvascular network intact, and reinjecting it into the areas to be treated - such as an arthritic knee - to increase vascular density and promote spontaneous healing. The technique is applied to aesthetic surgery, orthopedics, and health longevity. On the economic front, it is already reimbursed in Emilia-Romagna and Veneto, with ongoing discussions in Lombardy. IMAGE REGENERATIVE, with its main location in Milano, recently announced a new opening in St. Moritz.
